vSystem Troubleshooting

Q: No oil is reaching my chain
Q: Oil is flowing too slow from my dispenser
Q: Oil is flowing too fast from my dispenser
Q: Oil is leaking from my injector when the bike is off
Q: Oil is leaking from the body of my reservoir
Q: There is a white waxy mass inside my reservoir at the bottom of the oil (water ingress)

Q: No oil is reaching my chain

  1. Have you fully primed your clear delivery tubing, using pressure from your yellow Scottoil bottle, with no long airgaps? If not, prime again.
  2. Is your breather tube or your rubber filler plug blocked? If so, clear the blockage or take off and see if oil flows now.
  3. Have you tried to change the flow rate using the adjuster knob? (Clockwise to open)
  4. Is your clear delivery tubing blocked kinked or otherwise restricted? How about the dispenser nib? If so, clear the restriction and try again. Nibs should have a 45° slash cut at the tip, facing away from the sprocket.

  5. Does your System get vacuum from the engine? Is the coloured plastic ring inside the reservoir lifting when you turn your engine on. If not, is the vacuum tubing/connection kinked, perished or otherwise obstructed?
  6. Are there any signs of water ingress inside your RMV or tubing, such as a white waxy mess? If so, empty out the oil, and carefully rinse system with paraffin or similar.
  7. Is your reservoir at least 6” higher than the injector? If not, move it to a higher position and try again.

Q: Oil is flowing too slow from my dispenser

  1. Have you tried to rotate the adjuster knob clockwise while the bike is warm and did this increase your flow rate?
  2. Are you using the correct oil for the current temperature? In cold weather, the red oil can be too thick, which can lead to a slower flow rate, we recommend using the blue oil instead, which has a temperature range of between 0° - 30°C
  3. Is there a blockage in your dispenser nib? If the nib is blocked, the oil won’t flow as freely as it should, which will restrict flow. Clear the blockage or replace nib and try again.

Q: Oil is flowing too fast from my dispenser

  1. Have you tried to rotate the adjuster knob anti-clockwise while the bike is warm and did this reduce your flow rate at all?
  2. Is your RMV located near a heat source, such as hot engine parts or the exhaust? If so, find an alternative location, which is cooler and check if you have more control over the flow rate.
  3. Are you using the correct oil for the current temperature? In warm weather, the blue oil can be too thin, which can lead to a fast flow rate. We recommend using the red oil instead, which has a temperature range of between 20° - 40°C
  4. Do you have a Lube Tube attached to the RMV, which is located higher than the RMV? If so, move it to the same height – or lower than the RMV – but never any higher.

Q: Oil is leaking from my injector when the bike is off

  1. Are there any long air gaps in your delivery tubing? This could be a sign of air getting in either at the connection to the RMV or through a hole in your tubing. Check all connections and replace if you find any holes.
  2. Do you have a Lube Tube attached to the RMV, which is located higher than the RMV? If so, move it down to the same level or lower than the RMV.
  3. Try clearing this using a sharp pumping action from your yellow Scottoil bottle – to flush away any foreign particles that may be preventing the closing o-ring from sealing on the jet post inside.

Q: Oil is leaking from the body of my reservoir

  1. Make sure that your filler plug is a tight seal. If it only sits loosely on the filler hole, use a small (5mm) bit of vacuum tubing and press it into the little gap inside the nipple to make it wider and the seal tighter.
  2. Make sure the spigot on the bottom of your reservoir is not loose. Note: Never attempt to loosen the brass spigot, as this cannot be tightened again, externally.
  3. Check the clear bowl of your RMV for any signs of cracks or splits.
  4. Check if the oil is leaking from around your adjuster knob. If so, are there any signs that the diaphragm inside is kinked?

Q: There is a white waxy mess inside my reservoir at the bottom of the oil (water ingress)

  1. Drain your reservoir completely and squirt paraffin or WD40 through the filler hole, give it a good shake,  then prime the system to force this  through the filter, using pressure from your yellow Scottoil bottle, (without the delivery tubing attached). Refill with oil and prime the delivery tubing and check the flow rate.

You can prevent this from happening again in the future by doing the following:

    1. Make sure that your filler plug is a tight seal. If it only sits loosely on the filler hole or is cracked perished, replace it with a new one. For extra security, you can insert a small (5mm) section of thin, black vacuum tubing into the nipple of the filler plug to make it a tighter seal in the filler hole.
    2. Make sure the end of your breather tube is attached and pointing (downwards) into a dry area, away from road spray, for example behind a panel and is facing away from the direction of travel.
    3. Make sure that no jet-wash comes into contact with the System or any part of the tubing.
