Q: How do I operate the xSystem?

To turn the system on, press and hold the on/off button (at the bottom) until the LEDs light from the bottom , upwards. It will settle on the chosen flow rate.
To turn off, again, hold the on/off button and the LEDs will light up and turn off, one by one, downwards.

To increase the flow rate, make sure it’s switched on and press the upwards pointing arrow and the LED will move one position higher.
To reduce the flow rate, press the downward pointing arrow.
Set the flow rate on the middle section and adjust if required up/down depending on your riding conditions.

The xSystem will automatically switch on/off and no manual activation is necessary. You can manually turn the system on/off if you transport the motorcycle on a ferry or trailer.

Q: How does the xSystem know when to dispense the oil?

The xSystem dispenses the Scottoil onto the chain at a controlled rate that can be set by the user and through sensing the motion of the motorcycle.

Q: How much oil does it use in comparison to other chain lubes?

The xSystem dispenses approximately 0.03ml (or 1 drop) of oil at intervals of 20, 50, 80, 120 or 150 secs, this should be set depending on the conditions and user preference.

Q: How much oil fling/mess do you get using the xSystem?

The xSystem will fling off no more oil than a traditionally applied lube. If fling occurs it is because the user preference/setting is too high for the conditions. The system should be adjusted and fling will not happen.

Oil fling also increases when the dispensing tube is not set up correctly. This tube should always be lightly touching the face of the sprocket in order to dispense a light oil film onto the sprocket, which will then get pushed into the inside of the rollers using centrifugal force. If the tube is set up incorrectly and is trying to drip oil directly onto the chain, then this drop is likely to be caught by wind and flung away from the bike.

Q: How often do I need to fill it up?

The system has a capacity of 60ml. The following riding times are approximate depending on user setting:

- Setting 1 – 0.03ml every 20 secs

- Setting 2 – 0.03ml every 50 secs

- Setting 3 – 0.03ml every 80 secs

- Setting 4 – 0.03ml every 120 secs

- Setting 5 – 0.03ml every 150 secs

Q: How do I fill the xSystem up?

The xSystem is easily filled through a filler hole on the top of the unit. Simply remove the small rubber bung by gently pushing it to the side, fill to just below the hole and then replace the bung.

Q: What are your recommendations for settings?

Settings are very much user preference and are dependent on a number of factors, such as ride length, environment & conditions. To begin with, we recommend one drop every 50 seconds and change depending on use and environmental conditions.

Q: How easy is it to fit?

The xSystem is designed for a simple installation and on most motorcycles it can be fitted to the frame or under the seat. There are multiple options depending on the type of bike you have and the space available. Each kit comes with a complete installation guide and there are video tutorials on how to install it. The xSystem can be installed by either a competent technical end user, motorcycle technician or dealer.

Q: Does it fit all motorcycles?

The xSystem is designed to be able to fit most motorcycles. Where possible the design has tried to incorporate as many configurations as possible. This is made even easier with the use of our new and improved dispenser mounting solution, which will be included in the xSystem kit.

Q: Can I fill the system with another oil?

No. We have developed our oil specifically for use with the Scottoiler Systems. We know that the makeup/structure of our oil is compatible with all of the materials within the xSystem. Due to the unknown materials and construction of other manufacturer oils, we cannot recommend other lubricants.

Q: Is the xSystem waterproof?

The xSystem is design to be IP (Ingress Protection) 65 rated. These standards indicate:

IP65 Enclosure - IP rated as “dust tight” and Protected from low pressure water jets from any direction.
The xSystem is not designed for IP67 (Submersion).

We recommend not using a pressure washer on any part of the xSystem.

Q: Does fitting an xSystem take away the need for all chain maintenance?

The simple answer is NO. Depending on your current process the xSystem will take over the lubricating and optimisation of your chain. The specially formulated oil we use will be less contaminated than other lubricants making any cleaning far easier. We always recommend inspecting your chain for signs of wear, damage or stretch before any ride. A clean and lubricated chain is a happy and healthier chain. The xSystem is designed to maximise its performance.

Q: How do I clean my chain before fitting an xSystem?

Using your favourite chain cleaner or paraffin and a small brush is the easiest way to do this, a method recommended by both chain and motorcycle manufacturers. Once you’ve cleaned the chain, we’d suggest putting a little Scottoil all along it, with a rag or small brush, this is a good starting point for the xSystem to then top up.

Q: Can I remove the xSystem from one motorcycle and then fit it to another?

The system is reasonably straight forward to install and uninstall. It is however plumbed using tubing which carries oil and has a new dispenser mounting solution, which is stuck to the swing arm using an adhesive pad. This dispenser mount is not transferable without compromising the adhesive pad.

In order to fit the system to another bike we would recommend that you completely remove all parts from the original motorcycle and then move the whole system to the new one, however you may require to purchase replacement parts for the non-transferable parts.

Accessories will be available through our network of dealers and via our website. You may be able to leave some of the accessories on both bikes making a quicker change over, however please be aware of the oil in the tubing.

In some cases, it might be easier and more cost effective to replace the whole xSystem.

Q: How does the xSystem motorbike chain oiler from Scottoiler work?

The xSystem chain oiler is an electronically pumped system, so the oil is forced from the reservoir to the chain. The inbuilt accelerometer senses the bikes movement and will automatically start - stop the lubrication when you start your bike.

Q: How much power does the xSystem need?

When the engine is off, the xSystem draws approximately 2.3 milli-Amps of power. This is significantly less than the current drawn by a modern alarm so you don’t need to worry about the power drain on the battery. If the bike is stored over long periods of time, such as during the winter, or if you are worried about the draw, you can simply switch the unit off completely by pressing the On/Off button. The xSystem will still remember your settings once you turn it back on again.

This is also a good solution if you are moving the bike on a trailer or ferry and don't want it to start oiling.
